Bye, Bye Pink Palace

It's been time for a change for a while. Getting around to making a change... That's another story.
Given the age, 13, and the attitude, teenager, my Chicklet can now move up to "Chick" status.
The Chick spent a couple of weeks with family in California this summer. I stayed behind with the cleaning crew, Freia and Maica. Together we dug, shoveled and unearthed this bedroom.

As The Chicklet she loved pink. Pink, that color that I could go without until she came into my life. The room went from primary colors our first years here to pink with red and a green accent. What did one friend say? "Yuck." It worked with the coordinating accessories, really!

Before: The "Pink Palace." Texture, texture everywhere. The Chick put an end to any my visions of any painted textures this time around.

 The after!
The Chick's color choices.
We still have more to do. The furniture-bed, night stand and dresser are waiting for a coat of white paint.  The curtains were made out of an old duvet cover of mine from grad school. The bed skirt is made from the same fabric.
The chalkboard wall between the entry and closet doorways was my idea. I kept finding little comments written in Sharpie on the walls. Rather than go ballistic, I gave her a place to write and draw to her hearts' content. I might add a little note or two myself. The light switch cover has to go!
Originally, The Chick wanted the room to be the green, blue with black and white but she had enough items in hot pink that it became another accent color.
This corner was still in progress when the picture was taken. The boxes on the shelves have been emptied. Little drawers for school supplies and magazine holder for papers are in place. The Chick asked for a bigger mirror and we took this one out of the bathroom and hung it over her desk. Her make-up has been arranged on the desk and the morning traffic flow in and out of the bathroom is smoother now.
I sort of brain farted on this image. I was new to the world of smartphones and ended up with a video rather than a still image. I still wanted to share this idea. The Chick went on a Pony bead bracelet making spree last spring. I found bracelets at every turn during the clean up. Short of filling a bucket, I was looking for some fun way to store them. I came across a plastic, crayon piggy bank from the dollar store bought ages ago. The side kick to the right is a paper towel holder from IKEA.

The appreciation shown to me has been amazing. The room was filled with toys outgrown, school papers, clothes, you name it. It was stifling. The emptying and reorganization has a been a welcome transformation. The Chick loves her new room and has taken pride in keeping it clean and her things taken care of.
The two weeks away didn't hurt. I think she was pretty happy to be back with her mama and hairy sisters.

  9. Thanks for all the comments, ladies. FYI-We picked up the Eiffel Tower at Hobby Lobby a few years ago.
The mirror over The Chick's desk is Mexican tin picked up locally years ago as well. I love it when she likes some of my Mexican crafts gathered over two generations.
